FAUNO engages with an iconic subject from literature, music, and ballet history. At the center is the story of the faun, which, based on the symbolist poem L’Après-midi d’un faune (“The Afternoon of a Faun”) by Stéphane Mallarmé from 1876, inspired both Claude Debussy in 1894 to compose his piece Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Vaslav Nijinsky in 1912 to create his ballet L’Après-midi d’un faune.

Barros is particularly interested in how Symbolism, as an artistic movement, transcends disciplines, responding to spirituality, taboos, and dreams while evoking the mysterious and unspoken through myths. She questions the contemporary significance of these symbolic figures and explores how they can be reinterpreted in the age of the Anthropocene.
